Privacy Policy

How Malta Basketball handles visitor information, correspondence and published basketball records.

Privacy at Malta Basketball

This policy explains how personal data is handled when you visit maltabasketball.com, contact us, or appear in the basketball records published here. It provides information under Articles 13 and 14 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation and Malta’s Data Protection Act. Effective 4 September 2026.

Who is responsible

The individual owner and operator of maltabasketball.com, trading online as Malta Basketball, is the controller for this processing. Questions and rights requests may be sent to info@maltabasketball.com.

Personal data and sources

Cloudflare may process IP addresses, request details, dates and times, browser or device information, browser-performance timings and security events to deliver, measure and protect the site. Email messages are processed so we can respond. Public basketball records may include names, team and competition membership, squad details, ages published by official sources, fixtures, results, box scores, statistics and credited photographs.

Sports records come from public sources including the Malta Basketball Association and Genius Sports, FIBA, official club sites and public club social-media pages, YouTube broadcasts and reputable sports reporting.

Purposes and legal bases

Technical data is processed under our legitimate interests in operating, measuring and improving a reliable and secure site. Sports data is processed under our legitimate interests in informing the basketball community and maintaining an accurate historical archive. General enquiries are processed under our legitimate interests in responding and administering the service. Data-protection requests and other relevant information are processed to meet legal obligations.

Recipients and transfers

Published sports records are public and may be indexed by search engines. Cloudflare hosts, measures and protects the site, GitHub stores the private source repository and archive used to build it, and our email provider processes correspondence. Cloudflare and GitHub operate internationally and state that they use recognised safeguards for protected transfers where required. We do not sell or rent personal data.

Cookies and analytics

Malta Basketball uses Cloudflare Web Analytics and its browser-performance beacon to measure aggregate page use and technical timings. Cloudflare states that the service does not use cookies, local storage, fingerprinting or other client-side identifiers and is not used for advertising, individual profiles or cross-site tracking. An IP address is received during normal web delivery but Cloudflare states that its beacon system discards it rather than storing it in the core analytics database or logs. No consent banner is currently shown for this aggregate, cookie-free analytics. Read Cloudflare’s Web Analytics documentation. Cloudflare may separately set a strictly necessary security cookie if a challenge, bot-protection or rate-limiting feature is triggered.

Retention and rights

Website, analytics and security data is retained according to the enabled Cloudflare service, its documented retention periods and the period reasonably necessary for measurement, security and troubleshooting. Email correspondence is kept only while reasonably necessary to answer an enquiry, administer a rights request, meet a legal obligation or handle legal claims, and is periodically reviewed for deletion. Basketball records are retained while necessary for an accurate historical archive and reviewed when a correction, objection or erasure request is received.

You may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. Rights are not absolute and may need to be balanced against accuracy, freedom of expression and information, legal obligations and the rights of others. We normally respond within one month.

Youth players

The archive includes limited sports information about youth players from official or club sources. The site has no youth accounts, direct messaging or behavioural advertising and does not intentionally publish private contact details. A player, parent or guardian may request priority review of an inaccurate or inappropriate record.

Contact and complaints
